Hi,
I just seen your post and was wondering if you put in a fridge in the cockpit area. If so what size and brand did you use? I have the same boat and would love a fridge. Sooo tired of buying ice!

I too am tired of buying ice and dumping out the water everyday.  I bought one of the Waeco CF-18 portable fridge/freezers last year for my smaller boat.  I used it as my main fridge all summer long on my 24' boat.  When I upgraded to the 290FV, I used it to bring food back and forth to the boat, but never thought of seeing if it would fit in the cooler area.  I am going to try it this year as soon as I get the boat back.  I think it might be a bit tall, but I am hoping it will give me just enough room to get in and out of it for cans and ice.  I figure around 32-33' will give me non-frozen cans, but long-lasting ice.  If it doesn't fit, I think I am going to use it on the floor over on the port side just for ice.  The cooler can be just for beverages, which could either be cooled by a single bag of ice each day or two, or maybe a smaller thermoelectric cooler for short money.

The great thing I loved abotu the Waeco is that you could run it off a single starter battery in a boat or car for 2-3 days before it would automatically shut off to prevent battery drain.  I left it plugged in all the time on the other boat which had only one battery, and never had an issue with the voltage.  Never even saw it drain it even a little bit.  Very efficient compressor on these.

I will try to remember to let you know as soon I try it out in the beginning of May.

Thanks for the reply. I like the portable fridge/freezer idea. I'll have to check it out!

i have done alittle research on this, i found that rinker uses a norcold de0051. i am planning on installing the de0051 in my 03 fv 270. i think the idea of a portable cooler is good, but i also think having a cockpit fridge would be cooler-er! the model de0051 has been replaced by a newer model.
