Foul smelling OSX drive drain oil

Hey all,
Anyone have any experience changing the oil in an OSX drive? I've changed a lot of oil but have never smelled anything like what came out of that drive! It was new in '05 so I'm wondering if it has something to do with the breakin period, or whether it's just the way the Volvo synthetic gets after a season. The oil in the motor didn't smell unusual.
Regards,
Eric

I changed my oil in my 04 270, vp dp and the oil smelled like dirty socks,i have noticed this is my other boat that i had previously.I would be more concerned if you found any filings in your oil. Peter

Peter you're probably right. At least there were no filings or gear teeth in the oil. It was intersting because I changed the oil, put the drain pan in the garage and then left on a business trip. Wife called to say that the folks in the apartment above the garage evacuated because of a terrible stench they thought was leaking propane. Turned out to be the synthetic I drained from the drive. It's now in a sealed bucket outside the garage.
