I'm on a boat! A M'F$%#ing boat!

OK - so we're out yesterday and we're going through the Great South Bay and folks are moving up and down to the cabin to get changed, get food, etc. At some point, the companionway hatch is open and someone flips the door stop at the bottom to keep it open while they are carrying stuff up and down. It was a bit choppy, not to bad by most standards, but all of a sudden the hatch swings shut. I look down from the helm and see that the flipping door latch/door stop actually broke off. Where does one find one of these as a replacement? I don't recall ever seeing one at the marine supply shops I  visit from time to time.

You know, I did replace one (don't remember off hand if it was this boat or my prior one) and I did find it at a marine store.  If I could only remember the actual name the thing was called.  I'll give it some thought for a day and here and see what I remember.

Apparently it's actually called a flip door stop - saw it on Worst Marine today... lol

I have the tab so I can do make sure the dimensions are right on the replacement.

No idea why it failed - wasn't that rough. Maybe just caught it the wrong way. Who knows?  dont know

Glad you found it.  I remember I had originally bought one for my Sea Ray.  It never had one, go figure, so it was annoying having the door move a bunch while underway.

Replacement was $13.99 at Marine Mate in Lindenhurst, LI - actually cost more b/c I can't walk into a marine supply store and not buy more stuff.  roll eyes

A one beer job...  thirsty

Tried to stretch it to two and the Admiral gave me the eye... lol

Unscrew broken part, two dabs of caulk, re-screw with new door stop and voila. Maybe 3 minutes.

Huh. Pretty amazing that you found a "3 minute job" on a boat and even more amazing that your beer only lasted 3 minutes  roll eyes
All my "3 minute jobs" always turn into 30 minutes or an hour - seems that every time I take something apart, I find other stuff to fix or improve on while there.......
