So we pull out of our slip at 6:30 or so on Friday evening right as it starts to rain. By the time we get through the no-wake markers it's coming down in sheets. We finally make it to our destination and I called a friend to find out if he is still coming. He responds back that there is a boat on fire at our marina...

...on the dock right in front of where we keep our boat. By the time I got back to our slip on Sunday morning, the boat had been removed but we saw the damage to the boats on either side - not pretty.

These were taken by marina staff the following morning. The first pic is of the boat that started the fire (Maxum 33), the second are both of the boat docked to the starboard side or the first one (Chaparral).

According to marina management, it turns out that the owner of the first boat, the Maxum, was onboard - and lit a CANDLE in the CABIN!!!!!!

Thank god it was raining of we could have had a chain reaction. Apparently neither of the two dock extinguishers were used, nor were the ones aboard any of the boats.

A !#@$ing candle?!?!?!?!?      :x

Not insured? Yikes! I am surprized the marina allowed an uninsured vessel in their facility. Looks like some damage may have occured to other vessels around the inferno.

The boat to starboard ended up being totaled but the boat to the port side is repairable. Apparently, the insurance lapsed after he signed the marina lease...

I believe the owners brother was the cause of the fire. The owner was in New Orleans(?) or on his way back when it happened. The had a bottle of rum or some kind of alcohol that got knocked over into the candle and the rest is history. Now that the story that was told by the dock master at the big yacht club.  By the way no matter how hard you try, you can't fix stupid.
