My 232 rinker BR bilge pump just quit running.  the light still comes on the switch and all wires are still connected at pump and to switch.  Any tips out there?

If its not hard to get to, manually lift the float switch to see if the pump will run then. Some model of pumps have a little knob on the side that can move the float switch up and down. It could be just a sticky float.

If it is a Rule pump & float (one of the brands used by Rinker 2004 & 2005) then you won't be able to lift the float due to it being enclosed. put the plug in and fill it with water and turn the pump on at the dash. you will hear it run if your surroundings are quiet. I had to replace mine they don't seem to last too long. What kills them is a stuck float that causes them to run dry until  your battery goes dead.

wanted to keep this one the same thread... can anyone tell me where to find the actual pump? mine's a 1997. same issue, dash light comes on, but no pumping. water's collecting down there. been scooping it out one coke bottle at a time...

edit: i'll add that the fuse next to the bilge dash switch will pop up if i turn it on. not immediately though. (guessing that means there's some kind of short). how should i go about fixing it?

It should be below the front of the engine. Your middle seat should fold forward and it will be straight down from there. On my 1998, it is a Mayfair cartridge style pump which is cool because you only have to replace the cartridge and not the entire pump.

you got it Greg! except mine was a Johnson unit. also cartridge. the old one was a 500 gpm Johnson, wouldn't turn by hand and was bulging to the side, as if it had melted or something. i replaced it with a 1000 gpm unit.

thanks for the help guys.

now the problem is that 1) it won't stop running and 2) seems like my cabin lights don't have enough juice to turn on all the way (cabin lights and/or floor lights, maybe even dash lights)!! could this be related to the new pump? full battery on a charger.

re #1, i looked at the float (built in, had to unscrew it) and it's going up and down fine.

Yes mine bulged out at the top of the unit. It looked like a hot-air balloon :-)
