Anodes

I think I need to change the anodes on my sterndrive. Most of the marina's are selling zinc anodes but everything I've read said that if you are only boating in fresh water that I need magnesium anodes. The zinc anodes are less money. Originally this mercruser engine came with zinc but I've read somewhere that they too are saying to use mag. Can anyone offer advice why zinc is still being sold for landlocked states with only fresh water?

He Al,
In my opinion it must be the Aluminium in brackesh and the Zinc in salt?? Mag in fresh is OK.
From experience also in fresh water the Alu are doing their job.
See my earlier reaction on the standard delivered Zinc anodes which costed me almost a drive within 1 year on fresh.
Risk with the Mags are in case your boat is in brackesh or salt even fort a very short time, they are gone within few days. If you do not notice that, you have big problems.
