Probably a simple question but unfortunately i do not know the answer. On my 99 FV 270, when i run the sink in the head or galley, where does the water go? Does it go into the holding tank where the waste goes or does it come out the side of the boat thru a valve?

On my 342 it goes through a hose and right out the side of the boat.

Out the side unless the boat is equipped with a "gray water" system, then into the holding tank.  Gray water systems are an option and pretty unusual.  Generally, they are ordered by buyers who plan to keep their boats in a marina where such a system is required.  There are a few such marinas within the city limits of Washington, DC, but I haven't heard of many others.

All gray water goes right out the side of the boat. Black waste water into the holding tank. Run the sinks and take a walk around.

IMHO it should be a requirement that sinks on boats are all marked where they drain, e.g. "Sink Drains Overboard". Some larger boats you can get a gray water tank option, but most smaller ones drain overboard. We use all eco friendly soaps. I'm not a tree hugger but if you can make a small choice it all helps.

REI has a good range of eco friendly soaps and shampoos btw.

Same here - we generally try to use envronmentally friendly stuff. Trader Joe's also has a good selection of "green" soaps, etc.
Of course farm run-off is the biggest contributer to the river chemistry issues but I suppose every little bit helps.

I have a 2008 280 ec with the grey water system and i regret it. The holding tank fills up way too fast. If anyone knows how to disengage it i would like to hear how it can be done.
I nownrinse all my dishes off the swim platformnwith the transom shower hose.

I also have a grey water system on my 2008 260EC.  I hate it.  I paid $800 to have the grey water system on my FW 248 Vista converted.  Looks like I have to shell out some cash to convert the Rinker.  The reason I didn't attempt to convert my Vista is because it required 4 new thru-hulls and I can't bring myself to drill a giant hole in my boat.
