Garmin GPS 172C with internal antenna for sale.  Used 2 seasons and in excellent condition.  I have all the accessories it came with including the mount, power cord, manual, etc.  $200.00  You need to supply the Blue chart chip.

any ideas if you can hook a fuel meter to this unit?

I checked the owner's manual and can't find anything regarding attaching a fuel guage to the GPS.  It does have a Trip function that records your moving average speed, total average speed, max speed, stopped time, moving time, total time and odometer.  You can attach a sonar and water temp devices.  Maybe this will be helpful for what you want to accomplish.  BTW, the only reason I'm selling this GPS is because I purchased another Garmin 172C with the external antenna and installed it in the dash on my new boat.  This GPS is very good and extremely accurate and has a lot of  capabilities and functions.  If you have any other questions let me know.
