I am looking at a couple of late model cruiser one is white and the other has a black haul. I really like the black. what are the pro's and con's? also I will be boating mostly in fresh water and the boats are fresh water cooled. does this mean the boat could not be run in salt water for a few days and then return to fresh water?
opinions and advice welcome and appreciated.

I really like my white hull boat. it's easy to clean up in salt water, you can barely see the scratches on it too. I would imagine a black hull would show all the new scratches you are bound to put on it...LOL!

Definitely a white hull for me. Pretty much for the same reasons. Way too hard for me to keep with on cleaning. Don't get me wrong, they look beautiful when clean. But I see them take only a couple weeks and then that's it again. You just don't see that on white.

I have the dark blue hull, it looks great for about a week then slowly looks like crap by the end the season. Then I get to spend a day compounding and waxing. If I had to do it all over again it would be a white hull.

Depends on the year. If it's 2007 or earlier, get the white for sure. The black hull requires a *lot* of TLC in order to keep it looking black and not splotchy grey...

I also have a dark blue hull - never again will I own a dark colored hull! Looks great but it's a real pain to keep clean and looking good and shows every little ding in the gel coat. Go with the white hull!

I have a dark blue and just said to the admiral the other day while wiping it down "Never again". Love it when it is clean, but it is keeping that way which is almost impossible.

We have a blue hull as well. It does take some effort to keep it looking good but the white hull will require similar effort to keep it looking just as good. I wax mine every couple of weeks to keep up with the look. In my mind I would do the same on a white hull because it will chalk and fade in a similar manner. Besides, boats are a labor of love!

I agree with "boats are a labour of love". I had both and I would NEVER buy anything but a White hulled boat. The coloured hulls look awesome when clean, however, if you aren't a dedicated cleaner/polisher, doing it every week, your boat will look like trash very quickly. Nature of the beast. I clean and wash my boat every week at anchor. I still need to polish areas to get the dirt completely off the boat.

I agree with everyone about the level of work but I love my black hull and the next one will definitely be black again! I know I may be glutton for punishment but it looks so classy! If you use the right products and keep after it, it is not that bad...
Also, someone mentioned the white being just as much work. I completely agree with that, white just hides blemish better than any other colors so you just dont notice that it is not as shiny as when you first bought the boat new...

I have the black hull and love it. People always comment on how they love the boat and the black. Don't mind keeping it clean since I would do the same with the white. It's like a red corvette. There is no other color!!

Another consideration should be your after sale. Just look all all the opinions you received and put that into a ratio. Dark hull boats are gorgeous and since I am personally very anal would consider one as my next boat. However majority said they would only consider white. That plus boats sitting on the market for years equally a very limited market when you decide to sell her. Just my 2 cents though.

I love black and white boats. If I had the choice, I would have picked a white hull with some black striping (and black bottom paint for sure) with black canvas. However, my new boat is the exact opposite, all black hull with a 5" wide white stripe just above the water line and then white hardtop and vinyl (no canvas). I love the look and have had a lot of positive comments about it. I will detail it every spring then regular touch up maintenance throughout the season.

I have a black hull and really like it, but if I had it to do over again, I would choose the white one. The black is way too hard to take care of and it oxidizes too quickly.
An engine with a fresh water cooling system can be used in fresh water. It is meant to save wear and tear created by running in salt water, but it works just as well in fresh water.
