232 w/454 over heating pump out

I have a 96 rink 232 with a 454, One sat it overheated, it has silent choice exhaust and it got so hot the boots on the exhaust melted. This is why i think the pumps are out because the water wasnt not flowing through them to keep them cooled and the engine temp got up to 200. Im asssuming i need to replace the water pump and the impellar. It has a bravo 1 outdrive. i was just wondering what parts i needed exactly and things I need to make sure i do when im working on it.

There is a raw water pump on the front starboard side of the engine. The fuel pump is atteched to it and they are both belt driven. Get a rebuild kit for the pump and be sure to mark the hoses prior to removing them so they go back where they were originally. Also be sure to check the gear lube level in the fuel pump. Mine ran dry for years.....had a small squeak that all involved said was the belts......long story short the pump failed some years later leaving me stuck for 6 hours behind a friend's boat getting towed home. Parts were right around $500 for the repair.

I had a pump impeller come apart one time and a small piece got stuck in the thermostat and it would not close all the way. Might not hurt to put a thermostat in also. That would be the easiest part of the whole job. Good luck.
