What is consensus on leaving the air on when you are on the hook. I set the temp to 75.  I will be back to the boat in a few days. There is no reason to have the water hooked up correct? Thanks!

It shouldn't be any problem. The a/c uses the water that the boat is in for the heat exchanger in the a/c system. No need to be hooked up to water at the dock. Temp is a matter of personal preference.

Depending on the system you have, there's a "dehumidify" setting (the MarineAir unit I have says 'HU 1") that will run the unit twice a day to keep the interior humidity level down. Keeps it around 75 or so, but the lack of humidity (and mold/mildew) is nice!

^^ +1 on what parkrode said; it's "activated" by turning on AC, then simultaneously hitting the On/Off button and the Temp Down button. And the unit's not running the whole time. ^^

Another thought. Although the actual compressor would only cycle on / off as needed, if you leave your AC on your fan would run continuously, 24/7, with no one on board. Doesn't quite make sense to me, but I often see AC water output on unattended boats at the marina anyways. Your call.

I also use the HU 1 dehumidify mode when not at the harbor. Keeps the boat cabin dry!

How do you reactivate the normal AC setting after it being in the dehumidify mode??

Just push the power to stop it and hit it again to start it.  The unit will then display the setting and either start heating or cooling depending on the setting.

I leave my A/C on all the time, just up the temp a bit.  Everyone around me leaves theirs on too.  I pay a flat fee for the A/C power hook up, so I'm guessing they all stay on because they cost no more to run.

I leave mine on too - always nice to have a place to cool off after tearing down the canvas...

Although I have a neighbor across the canal who was freaking out b/c he thought my bilge was on overdrive the time I was away from the boat...

I also leave the A/C of the boat and so far nothing bad is happening. They said that it is really advisable to do that to maintain the temperature inside. By doing this, you will eliminate molds and mildews from thriving into your place.

Look in the manual, you should be able to set the parameters so that the fan and pump turn off with the compressor.  I have mine set that way, cuts most of the wear off the pump and the filter does not dirty as fast.

It's called programing option P14. Hold the power button until you enter the program mode. Then push the fan button until you get to P14. Then hit the down button to change the fan mode to cyc. The fan will then only come one when the compressor comes on.

You guys on fresh water lakes have it made  grin  You haven't lived until you've sucked up a jellyfish into the sea strainer and had to clean it out.  If you are not on board when this happens, the unit will over heat from not getting water, then shut down, but the jellyfish makes a great mess while the unit is trying to get water before it shuts off.

Doug, you sure hit a sore spot in my book.  You know, I never had one in my A/C until this year (had them in the genny though).  & two weeks ago when I was over in Cambridge I sucked them up 3 different times.  Definitely some nasty looking slime. roll eyes
