ok here goes.had the bung plug fail as we backed our 89 cuddy in, water got to about the lower pulley on our 4.3 mercruiser.long story short we got her dried out new plug in,took her out for a run.after about an hour running she puked a milkshake out the vent into the carb and she quit.am ondering if anyone knows of a way water coud have got in the pan with the much submersion.also is there a way to clean her out and see if she has life left?as side note temp was never above 150,and oil pressure never below 35psi.

    thanks

did the engine go under?  If so you need to flush the oil asap.  If the engine did not go under, you might have a cracked block.  Al

I agree, if you are seeing engine oil that is whitish/frothy you have water in it, which means a water leak: cracked block/head or a failed head gasket.

Water can enter the block when the water level in the bilge area is deeper than the oil pan. It can enter through the dip stick and even through the oil pan gasket itself.
Check the oil level to see if it is higher than what it was before the submersion. Anytime the oil is milky it has water in it and needs changed right away. Be sure to change the oil and the FILTER. Then watch to see if it changes color as you run the engine. it doesn't take much water at all to change the color of the oil.
