I have a 96 captiva 212 bowrider with 4.3 alpha one. This past weekend when I would shift into forward it would not always go. It would rev up and you could here a little grinding noise and then slam into gear. Reversed worked fine. Anyone have any ideas? I hope it is a cable issue. I have owned the boat since 98 and never had to adjust any cables. Thanks for your help.

there is an adjustment on the **** cable directly ON the engine....look where the **** cable attaches on the engine. If I remember well, remove a cutter pin and remove a 10mm bolt. Then make a couple of rotations with the little ''black plastic cylinder''. I think you need to bring it a little bit to the back of the boat....not to the front...do a little bit a the time... I would try 2 rotations at the time. I hope I am clear. If not let me know

Keep us posted

Adjustment may not be the cure. Try adjusting it, however, it might introduce other issues. These cables stretch over time and you may need to replace it.

So I was able to adjust the cable. Forward is better but now reverse seems a little funny. I think I found a happy medium. Hopefully that will get me through the rest of the season. I think I'm going yo have to replace the secondary cable. Anyone have any idea how much that may cost to have done? Thanks for all the help.

So I went out this weekend and that the neutral safety switch was not centered. Got that fixed now I think the cable may be out of ajustment again. Now when I spin the prop ( with the engine off ) it is making a clicking noise. It has never done that before. Any ideas?

Skooter get a new cable on there before you damage your gear set.  thumbsup
