Rinker 232 Water Pump Impeller

I need to replace the water pump impeller on my 2005 232 bowrider with 350 Mag/B3. Dealer says to remove floor/back seat to have access to front of engine. Anyone with experience doing this?

I've done it on my 282, not a fun repair. I'm guessing your dealer's advise was to give you better access to the area. You probably don't have to do that, but otherwise you may have to be a gymnast to get the repair done. The repair itself is pretty simple, its just seeing the area and getting your arms and hands to the right spot, under the engine.

Like cwhyte said the repair its self is easy. It only takes three bolts to take the housing off but getting to it is the trick, that and wiggling of the hoses. I would do just what the dealer said so you can get to it. I have to lay on the engine and hang down on the starboard side and do the undo by braille method.

On my 2002 232 with the same engine, I remove the plastic storage bin from the engine compartment and climb in.
I am 5' 10" and 170 lbs. and have plenty of room to get in, do the job and get out. The hoses, belt, bolts, etc. are all easy to get to from there. Fuel filter, plugs, starter, etc. are accessible from that side as well. I can also lay across the engine to get to the plugs on the other side.

After reading siebt's reply it reminded me that I use and old PFD or throw cusion as a pad when I have to lay across the engine. There are many protuberances that make laying on it very unpleasant.

I pulled the floor pan and back seat out when I did mine, I wouldn't say you HAD to do it but it darn sure makes access to the pump easier. It only took a extra hour to remove and reinstall the seat and floor pan and I am sure it would have took longer for my back to get better after twisting and turning trying to reach things with it still in. Good Luck.

johnholz..please keep us updated. I have the same boat, but the bow rider version. The dealer wants to charge me some crazy amount to change it. I have had him do it once, but this season I am thinking about doing it myself. Any info would be greatly appreciated, pics would be even better!

Texas - my boat is also a bowrider. The job wasn't too difficult once I removed the floor and back seat. There is plenty of access to sea pump at front of engine that made the job easier. My seawater intake hose (it's red on my boat), had a clip that allows you to separate the hose further back (didn't even have to remove it at the pump). The other hose, which was at bottom of pump, was easy to access and remove. I didn't think to take any photos, but I would allow at least 2-3 hours to complete this job. The old impeller was all there, not bad for 215 hours and 4 summers of use.
Thanks again for all the posts/advice.
