Hi everyone. We just bought our first boat and so far we love it. Mostly we have been using it for family outings, tubing, swimming ,etc., but I have a couple friends that like to fish. My first question is has anyone mounted rod holders on this boat? If so, what brand worked the best? I know the gunwale isn't wide enough for a flush mount, but I'm hoping to find a couple that can be removed from the base when not in use.
My other question is what is the "sweet spot" for the 260 hp 5.0 with alpha drive? I'm guessing by the way she runs it's 3400 to 3800 rpms, but I'm not sure.
Thanks

Not sure exactly on that engine but it seems to be between half and 3/4 throttle on the boats I've owned.

Congrats on the 232! I had a 2000 232 and my wife and I loved it before trading up to a 246. The throttle sweet spot on my 232 was about 3000 rpm. One thing I would consider is getting the Stingray ZRIII hydrofoil. I had the Alpha out-drive on a 5.7 EFI Merc, same hp as yours and noticed a definite performance improvement. I could cruise on plane at about 20-22 mph with my rpm's in the upper 2000s. The boat was faster out of the hole and on plane as well. I could trim the motor to about 3/4 and get the best fuel economy. Enjoy your 232. It's a great boat.

My 97 232 has been rock solid since 97 except I had to replace the impellor after it was too late. As far as the rod holder goes, maybe you can find something that mounts to the stainless hand rails or such so you dont have to drill unwanted holes in anything. Good luck
