Hello fellow RBO's,

I am re-upholstering my v-berth cushions and when I remove them all, I am left with 2 curved "u shaped" cushions that appear to be "fixed" to the boat. Before I try and pry them off and break something, I was wondering if anyone new if these can be removed easily or if they are in fact fixed and are not to be removed....I have a 99 FV270. Any ideas? Thanks for any input. Picture is attached.

These cushions are screwed on, the screws are very difficult to fine, but a located in the middle seam between the foam.  If you are recovering, sometimes it is more cost effective to just pry off.  The backer board is 1/4" luan.  Al

Al,

thanks for the input. Not sure if i understand what you are telling me. Are the screws "in" the cushions under the fabric??

If you notice the pad has an upper foam piece and a lower foam piece,  the screws are in the middle seam.  Al

Use a strong magnet to locate the screws.

Interesting - on my 05 they have snaps that hold them down and velcro on the sides to marry up to the other berth cushions...

Spoons, what is the re-upholstery going to run you and what material are you using.  I have the same boat and have had thoughts of redoing the interior but couldn't even guess at the cost.  Thanks for sharing!

99FVBP

I recently found a place that was recommended by the rinker site by someone that gave me a quote of approx. $800 plus tax (doramar) for vinyl for all four cushions but without replacing the foam. the foam is around $150 extra they said. This was the best price but was close to others I found. I like the vinyl idea as it can be easily dried if moisture gets in cabin.

Have you ever removed the 2 cushions I mentioned in my posting? I do not see any seems it is just one complete cushion. Guess I have to take another look or two. Anyway, good luck with your cushions if you choose to re-upholster.

Which cushion are you talking about the long straight running for and aft on the shelf or the horseshoe style.  If you are refering to the horse shoe style.  I believe these are held in with screw from underneith,  a small "L" bracket with screws going up.  You will probably have to lay on back to see.  sorry for the confusion.  Al

Al,

Yes the horseshoe shaped cushions was my question and thanks for the help. After further thought I was thinking it might be underneath. Of course, I realized this AFTER I got back from the marina...lol. Thanks for the help!

Well I finally figured out how to remove the "horseshoe" cushions in my v-berth. I am still uncertain "how" they did this but they screwed in each cushion from above, but not thru the cushion. I am guessing the cushion was completed while on the boat. Anyway, I pryed them off and  am thinking of using velcro and some sort of strap with snaps when I get them re-uhpolstered. I will keep all posted as to the outcome in case soemone else needs a good place to go.
