New to the website. We are looking at a 342 very seriously and I am curious what other 342 owners are paying in insurance. We are in the midwest and it will be river boating with about a 5 month layup. Thanks.

Definitely agree with Babyboomer. Check out Boat US. Saved about 40% over regular insurance company. They usually charge about 1% of the value of the boat.

I have an 06 342 with Boat US and the insureance is a little below $800 per year. My boat is at Lake Erie so it is only used about 6 months per year.

We have a 2004 370 Express Cruisers Yacht w/ Yanmar diesels, and lay up for 4 months.
Our annual premium is $612.00 with United Marine Underwriters.
I've used them for three different boats.

I have a policy with Travelers through Global Marine Insurance and pay an annual premium of about $700 per year. I suggest you shop locally. Boat US is typically very expense comparitively.

I got a quote from Boat US at the last Annapolis Boat Show and they were over double what I'm paying for my 420. Right now I'm at about $2,000 per year with no lay up with Old United Insurance. |

Thanks for all of the input. Received a quote from our local State Farm agent at around $800 per year. Maybe a little higher than expected but it is nice to have an agent right around the corner. I have tried BoatUS in the past along with Progressive and they were quite a bit higher both times however I have a couple of friends with them and their rates seem to be right in line. Kind of like a crap shoot sometimes.

My sister in-law is a State Farm agent and she tells me all of their boat policies are written through Progressive.
I would be willing to bet that is what your agent has done but it might pay to see what Progressive has to offer directly. it may end up being cheaper, I know it was in my case.

I got notified that I needed to switch from Zurich (had a Master Marine yacht policy), but my agent (Bay Marine, a good company) found a Traveller's policy that had very similar coverage. Went from $1450 / yr to $1540...

Don't have a 342 but my 280 insurance through USAA to Progressive was more economical than BoatUS. by about 200. Boat US shot me a quote that was 1% of declared value.
