Hi to all,

i have the kohler onboard, for which i have changed last summer the impeller for the cooling system.

after abt 10 hours (not continious) operating, the cooling system stop functioning - no water is coming out from the hose/opening at the starboard side of the boat.

The impeller was a genuine one.

any ideas..? is there any possibility something to be sucked in the system and how can i check this??
is there any filter preventing such issues.

thks

Could be a couple of things.  First, the impeller could have gone bad; sometimes they don't last too long.  As you suggested, you could have something sucked up in the sea strainer.  Look for a seacock (probably in the engine compartment).  Close the seacock, then remove the strainer.  It looks like a cup and you can see through it.  Inside is a small round screen that could be clogged with anything (sand, jelly fish, etc.).  If there is a clog, clean it out thoroughly and give it a try.  Good luck!

On my friends boat he had the same problem - new impeller still no water flow.

Turned out that the water ports in the muffler were clogged.    He unbolted the muffler/exhaust form the engine and we used a pick to remove the buildup.  He also did that on the engine side.  it all works great now.

They say you need to run the generators often to prevent this.
