Where are all the Captiva owners? I expected this section of the site to be one of the busiest. I know you're out there!

Well, at this point it's a little hard to have any 'issues' with a boat that's in a friends barn behind several RV's and other boats. If anyone posts up things that have happened to them and I've experienced the same, I'll be happy to post.
Here in IL, the weather is not so hot for getting in the water (although the lake we put in does have a 'warm' side where the nuke plant discharge is)...but that is 'of limits' after Oct 30. So here's to waiting for warmer weather :)

We boat on a 'Nuke Lake' as well. Makes for great catfish (if you don't mind the 5th eye)

Occasionally in the past.
Did not go down there the year the water was so 'down', then knowing that when it came back up there would be a lot of debris floating around, we've stayed away the last couple of years. Since I live in Mahomet, we go to the closest ramp, which I believe is Welborn Springs. That ramp had been a pain for me because until now (daughter capable of taking boat off of trailer and lurking while I park the truck and also very capable of putting it back on) launching and pulling out was a one man job and the dock there leaves a LOT to be desired for those that need to tie up while parking vehicle. I also hooked up with a bunch that I did not even know spent a lot of time at Clinton (a couple of friends that I did not even know owned boats) and now we have a pretty regular weekend group that ties together either in Houseboat Cove or wherever seems appropriate for the day....BBQ on the pontoon, ski with boats like mine, etc.
However, we do enjoy going where we can get with a group of friends (or make new ones) and maybe we'll have to have a 'home and home' meeting (i.e. we'll come to Shelbyville....you can come up to Clinton once in a while). I do have a friend that camps regularly with his family at Shelbyville and takes his 232 along for the daytime fun.

Captiva 232 guy here..well at least till I can afford a 270. Mine is an 04 cuddy, black trim, with 5.0L, 260 hp, bravo III drive..I only had two small problems and neither one was Rinkers. Lost the gas cap while filling as the chain wasn't crimped enough, and the socket for the stern light had to be replaced. Other than that, Love the boat.

I think that is one of the 'weaker' items on the boat. Mine lasted about two times of the light pole in and out and was out for replacement. It's just a cheap poor unit and should be replaced with a better one IMHO...something that might happen this summer if I get around to it.

Both the stern light holder and the bow light are cheap white plastic. It wouldn't have cost much more to put something more durable on there. I may proactively replace both with similar components only chrome.

Have not had a problem with the bow light...then again, it has not been hit with anything solid to 'break' it. The rear one both the lid broke in short order (does not latch well) and the wires inside often pull up when you pull out the light pole.
While I'm at it, I can warn everyone of a real major (IMHO) 'flaw' on my 212. With all of the cup holders, there is one high right in the drivers area. If you notice, it is right over the radio. It also has a drain hole. It is also supposed to have a drain TUBE to divert any water that might enter down into the bilge. WELL, mine did NOT have a tube. Spring cleaning had me using some pretty wet rags to clean out the drink holders some water found it's way to guess where....right on the radio. I had the radio on at the time (key in ACC position, listening to tunes while cleaning) and all of a sudden it stopped working. The light came on right away, I pulled it from the dash in pretty quick order (I had a power screwdriver handy as I was tightening all screws anyway) and it was soaked. Long story short, the radio quit working, I tried to dry it with a hair drier....no dice.....I called Rinker...they finally agreed to swap me a new radio if I sent mine in. Some time passed, I had the radio 'in' the boat under the cover....there were several 'hot' days (which under the cover get pretty warm) so the radio had plenty of time to toast there. Before I was ready to box it up.....i tried it one more time and low and behold it worked...so far so good.....but I did go to Lowes and buy some tubing to divert water from ALL of the cup holder down away from anything that can be harmed....and would recommend the same for everyone to at least check and if there's no tube where water can do some damage....GET ONE .

Rinker 212 Issue

I recently sold my Maxum 2100SC and purchased a Rinker 212 Captiva with the optional extended swim platform. I love the boat except for one thing - no splashguard on the walkthrough transom. During quick stops, water comes through the transom. Does anyone else have a problem with this? Is this not a safety issue? Thanks.
