You pretty much nailed it, No Gin!  Not such a great boating season this year.

This was my first season and first boat and man what a disaster of a summer! I think I am pulling the trigger on an '03 270 FV this week and contemplating removing the shrink wrap and de-winterizing her and launching her for a few weeks to try and end the season positively and be ready to rock come next Spring. However, looking out today, uuuugggghhhhhh!!!   excited excited excited excited excited excited

A few years ago when I finally scored my 270 it was Nov 4th when I brought her home.  Went through her bigtime as fast as I could, got one 20 minute ride in, test ran the genny and a/c then back on the trailer for winterization.  I live near Chicago so a had to hang a 100 watt light bulb in the engine compartment for a few days as we got some temps below freezing bhefore I coulkd completely winterize.  That Thanksgiving I put her in storage.  That was the longest winter in my life.  Couldn't wait for my first "whole" boating season.  I wish you well with your 270.

That sounds similar to the way mine is headed except hopefully I will have a few weeks to play with her before re-winterizing her!!   Thanks for the kind remarks!! drool

So this 03 270 I am looking to buy is moored at a private marina in Riverhead. It's right between the North and South fork in the Peconic bay. Anyone else in that area? When do you guys keep your boats in 'till? Am I nuts to want to stay in until December?  dont know

No Gin, I'm also a Great South Bay boater and good luck with your 270.  I would say Dec is pushing it a bit as it can get below freezing  rather quickly during Dec.  Also, I believe the coast guard removes most of the buoys in the winter for maintenance, at least they do in the Great South Bay, so navigating can be a bit more difficult.  I always winterize mid to end of Oct, as for me its just too cold for boating after that and most boating destinations are closed by then any way.

I want to take the wife and kids out this weekend for our first overnighter with the new Rinker  grin  despite the threat of rain  dont know . Anyone been to any of the following spots:

Greenport
Sag Harbor
Orient Point
Shelter Island

Would like a place where the kids will have things to do and the wife can enjoy ourselves and get some good eats and some tasty beverages! Not to concerned about beaches    naughty  shades as it's a bit cold for that now.

Well we chose Greenport. Weather was a huge factor. We saw a small window of opportunity last weekend to go out on Sunday late morning and make a day trip out of it. When we got there the winds had picked up to 30 MPH gusts and the waves began to build; whitecaps a plenty! We docked right at Claudios where we ate lunch. By the time lunch was over the winds and waters were quite nasty. We decided to give it a shot at going back. Once we got out of the waterways entering Greenport and upon entering the Peconic waves were a solid 6 - 8 feet! Carefully we turned around and headed back! We spent the night at the Brewer Yacht Club in Greenport at a transient slip. They lent us their courtesy van so we can go in to town for a nice dinner. This was to be our first night on our new ('03) Rinker. We had some DVDs on board so the kids were quite happy on our bed watching Beverly Hills Chihuaha while the admiral and I drank some wine in the cockpit listening to the rain hit the canvas and waves slapping against the hull. It really was a very nice experience. Some people would view the trip as a disaster with dangerous seas and rain but for us, it was great! I must also say that the boat held up very well and handled the rough seas very well!

............ I love this boat!!!!!!!
 thumbsup
