I just went to my local marine parts store and bought a completely new housing. It wasn't that much (~$40)and was actually better than the factory one (the door didn't rattle). I did have to modify the cutout in the fiberglass slightly, but no big deal.

Why is it the factory uses substandard components on some areas and rock solid on others. Check West Marine or Overtons. You probably wont find just the door so go get a new housing you like, you may even be able to modify it a little to accept the Ipod plug or who knows. Good luck

I have the radio door in stock. Retail is right around where West Marine and Overtons are priced on their radio doors as well!
