I recently purchased a 2001 232 CC and absolutely love the boat.  However, this past weekend is the first time that we tried to pull a tube and later a skier and had some difficulties out of the hole.  Additionally, we were on KY Lake and it did not handle the 1'-2' chop very well and I was forced to go at low speed.

I am looking at smart tabs and reg. trim tabs...anyone have a suggestion or preference either way?  What are the pros/cons other than price?  Any help would be greatly appreciated...there seems to be all sizes out there...which is best?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Give us a bit more info.  Engine, drive, current prop pitch and how big of a load we talking?

I agree - more info. is needed. What engine and drive, how many people were on board, recent engine work, etc.?

I have a 2000 232 with 7.4 and have not had any problems getting up and out with a tube or skier, or handling chop. With 4-6 people onboard the boat will take some time to get on plane, but generally will not have problems.

It has the 5.7l (so the smaller engine) Alpha One outdrive.  There were 4 total people in the boat, full gas and full water.  The chop was pretty fierce 1'-2' but everyone seemed to think that Trim Tabs or even Smart Tabs would help.  The power was enough to pull skier out, just not up and on plane quick and caused the heavier skier to take a little water.  The nose was straight up and difficult to see...  I am not sure on the propbut I believe a 21...Thoughts

Trimmed down all the way?  I see you're in C-dale, we talkin' Crab Orchard?  I say if you're going to run that way to get either a prop with less pitch or add trim tabs.

What about a whale fin on the outdrive?  Much cheaper and may fix the issue.  I had much success with one on a bow rider.

I had a similar probelm with my previous runabout.  I fixed it with smart tabs.  I can provide a link to an ebay seller that offers a great price if you need it.  After installing them (...it's pretty easy but you do have to drill into your gelcoat) I felt the difference immediately.  I was able to ski behind my own boat for the first time!  I could get on plane quicker and stay on plane at lowere RPM.

My buddy has the whale tail which gives him the same results...but I worry abouth those metal fins sticking out where people jump out of the boat.  I'm afraid someone will cut themselves.

I have a 2003, 232cc and had simular issues.  This year I changed the stock alumnium prop to a
Quicksilver Mirage Stainless R 48-18278-17 now the boat never performed better,  Now I can have 4 adults and 3 kids on board, full fuel and water hit the throttel and the boat wants to jump out of the watter.  top speed a WOT is now 42 mph and 2-3 foot waves are no problem.  Its like having a new boat.
