Oh really?  This is my first full season up here...We didn't get the boat put in until late May last year.  Is there a lot of debris in the river at first?

absolutley .......Between docks , tires on  rims . drums , trees , it is a real alphabet soup right after melt ...we dodged a picnic table 10 miles out on the lake one year ..just be careful . keep a eye out , april  may is the worst time ..last year we picked up a tire on rim inflated  , we just knifed it and sunk it ...The st. L  is the funnel to the ocean so with the 6mph current it feeds like a funnel ...anyway dont let it stop you from doing what you want , just take the right precautions ..bring on summer , i want to burn out my hour meter ....lol

Don't get too antsy... water depris can spoil it real quick. That's why I tend to put in mid May... Boating before then does put you and your boat at risk (donot fall in)..

Wow...good call everyone...Having been an ocean boater before we never encountered this, and it makes sense why it occurs.  I'll have to be careful.  I was planning on trying to put my boat in around mid to late April.  We shall see if that actually happens.  If it does I will have to take it slow and be very careful!!!!  naughty

Today I was down and around the lake all day ...i would say it will be an early season on lake ontario , no ice anywhere , the water levels are up as usual this time of year , i honestly think I might float mine in late April if this warming continues ...The locals are talking of getting the water back on mid April as the frost seems to comming out of the ground fast this year //come on summer //
