First off, welcome to the site!

I've had two of the Rinker 236 models - a 1990 236 (carbureted 454 - 330 HP) and a 1994 236 (carbureted 454 - 300 HP) and both boats would run mid to low 60's lightly loaded. The 1990 Merc 454 was rated as Base Horsepower - BHP and the 1994 Merc 454 was rated as Prop Horsepower - PHP but both engines were pretty much the same. If I recall correctly the pre-MPI 454 Mag motors were rated at 350 BHP and the MPI 454 Mags were rated at 385 BHP. I also had a 1998 PowerQuest Legend 260 with the 454 Mag MPI (385 BHP) that would run mid 70's all day long.

Here's a link for an idea on how to up the ponies if you decide to go for a rebuild:

Good luck with the 236!
