Has anyone heard that Catalytic Converter's are going to be mandatory on boats. I heard that they are mandatory in California already. This is not good if it's true.....

Let's see, 1st we're killing the 2 cycle engine, now will the 4 cycle O/B's require this? Also what about the large commercial ships, the US Navy. Seems it's usually the average Joe that get stuck first. We still got industries & municipalities that don't meet EPA standards, shouldn't all that get corrected before we take the next leap (off a cliff.) If you think maintenance is expensive now wait till this new stuff arrives.
Remember when cars cost $3-5K then came all the safety, environmental requirements suddenly base price jumped to $8-10k, not counting the accessories & options. Not saying that a lot of it wasn't good, just maybe a burden on the general public, cost wise.
I worked in the automotive industry in service, engineering fields and watched it happen.
Well now that I've vented, feel a little better.

:rofl:This subject anoyes me , i see deisels spewing their black crap , old merc and omc 2 cycle motors creating clouds of blue fumes , and we talk Cytalitics for marine engines ..These Greens will get their comeupance one day when the lights go out ... u see the greens want us all to drive electric cars that plug in the outlet to recharge ..where are getting all this hydro from .. arent we already short ..the carbon foot print made by an electric car in its production never mind its disposal is multipul times worse than my dear old 350 merc , used 6 months of the year will ever produce ... I say to all the Greens , get a real job , and just to finish up here , i can see it now ..electric filling stations with ( Exon Mobil ) signs on them ...Im glad im 60 . if i was young i would be a modern Rebel...( James Dean ) lol.....

Hey, you're never to old to be a rebel!
Power of the pen and numbers, look when boaters complained to their Congressmen on the Clean water bill last year. We still have some power just have to use the right way!

My guess is that they will grandfather existing boats. Here's the part I don't like... those convertors will only last 450 hours and they must be changed. Just imagine what that will cost.. one for a car costs so much you can't leave car parked for very long and the thiefs are cutting them off of cars at the airports, park and rides and etc. Given that these convertors are marine, you can guarantee they will cost more than a car. Better to keep your older boat and convert to electric power. Sea Ray announced their first hybrid boat that uses electric power instead of a engine. They put a small four banger in for charging and assist.
Cheers,
Ron

Dazeoff you must have seen the same show about Mount St. Helens that I did at some point in the past. A comment was made that it's eruption put enough crud ( for lack of a better term) in the atmosphere in 3 days that we take 30 years to put up there. AWESOME power!!

What was that old saying. "Today we will move mountains, tomorrow we will move clouds"...
We all know fossil fuels will end , ok maybe until the next comet impact anyways... could it be that the earth is warming up because of all the unusal solar flares lately. Remember, the earth goes through cycles due to natural occurrances. The last time we had Mount St Helens go up it cooled down the summer. Maybe we should be putting more CO2 in the air to stop the warming...

Ha ha ha ...well im not against trying to lessen our carbon foot print , but we got to get real here , do gooders abound because they get paid (grants ) ect ...ever see a poor green do gooder ... ha ha .. not likley ..that said im all for every one of us doing the best can to reduce some of the **** we put out ..but we gotta get real . A friggin Electric car by the time u scrap it has a carbon foot print the size of Sasquatch ...It would blow your mind if you knew what goes on to produce one of these cars .. then u plug in to your hydro ( made from coal fired generators )...ok enough im gettin on a soap box ...In Canada we have in Vancouver a fleet of Hydrogen powered Buses and puc . trucks ...they run on water . u know why u cant buy one .. cus Exon Mobil and Petro Canada hasnt figured a way to fleece us for the water , better yet the Government hasnt figured out how to tax it to death ...But we want electric cars ...?????????????///

I say we skip the electric cars and jump directly to the hydrogen cars. It's the same as these stupid fluorescent bulbs. They should have jumped directly to LED technology. Those fluorescent bulbs are a huge health risk... forgot to tell you that Ehh! You can't throw them out in the trash, if one breaks you have to call in a special squad to cleanup because of all mercury & etc. You can't sweep them up or use a vacuum cleaner to remove it. To think I went stupidly out changed all my bulbs to these disasters. Canada is thinking of banning them now.
Think of a hydrogen powered boat.. all the fuel you need is what you are in.... won't that be a better alternative... talk about herd menality out there...

you are a ray of sunshine
. why didnt i think of that .. a Hydrogen Cell on a boat .. you are floating in the fuel ...I want to vote you for President . ha ha ha.
. There was and is a C.B.C. programme on right now called ... "who killed the electric car" ... you gotta see this ...Myself i think the oil industry taxes at both ends keep the government coffers full , so there is no real desire to let us have an alternate fuel source unless it is taxed to death ....Canada was a world leader in hydrogen power cells ( Ballard Power ) , however they have legislated it to friggin death .. and they now struggle to stay afloat .. i saw a programme recently that Canada was a world leader in :Sunlight Energy cells: , Canada wouldnt support it so they went to Germany . The Germans built them a factory and great tax deal , They are so busy now they are in the process of building a huge factory to produce them for Europe ..and we spend time talkin about Cyatalitic converters on boats .. You know , we are lettin the tail wag the dog ... now they want $300 bucks for an energy audit on every home in Ont ( how do u spell another tax)...like i said
i want off ..
