I have a 340FV and my waste and water sensor doesn't work anymore

I have heard that you can clean them to get them to work.

My guess is that they are in the tanks.

One is under the L seat and the other I'm not sure where is??

Hi Sea Monkeys
I have a 342FV and when I bought the boat the dealer (who is a friend of mine) told me that the sending units for these tanks do not work and that this has been a problem for Rinker. He took them out and cleaned them and they still did not work. He replaced them and they lasted about a year. I was going to spec out new units but not if its worth the hassle. Sorry if this does not help you.

If you have plastic tanks (I think most of us do), you might be able to just use an external sensor like this

http://www.marine.com/scad-external-tank-sensor-10022-p-47914.html Very similar to what the larger cruisers come with.  I'm not sure of the model that Rinker uses, but they work pretty well... Have them for both waste and fresh water...

Do you put the waste high on the tank to show when it's getting full and the one for fresh water low to show when it's near empty or do they actually show levels?

Nevermind. I read the whole desciption and it answers my questions. Looks like a much better system than OEM in the Rinker!

Yep, it works really well -- I think Rinker switched from 05 to 06 for that very reason...

I haven't tried to find the tanks yet...

One note of caution on the external sensors.  My fresh water tank holds 100 gallons and my holding tank holds 88 gallones and yet each is only about 9 inches tall.  The placement of the sensors is by necessity very close together and makes the readings not very dependable.  For example, even after a pump out, my holding tank still reads 1/3.  When it is full, it reads 2/3.  I don't have any idea how to fix (neither does the dealer). scratch head

Can you calibrate the sensors/gauge at all?

Not really, like Dan says it's by the position on the tank. On my 360, the tanks are about 18" - 2' tall (going from memory, and mine's not the best!) -- sounds like they really tried to get the weight of Dan's 420 lower to / below the waterline, so went with low / long / wide tanks.   There may be other vendors who have smaller / more accurate sensors, I hope!
