I am very serious about purchasing a used '96 Captiva 212 Cuddy (4.3LX Mercruiser/Alpha One) from a private seller (always used in fresh water) and am interested in some things I should look for when I physically look at the boat.  Should I have a surveyor look at the boat for ease of mind?  The boat does not have an hour meter.  The asking price is $13,500 (which I think is a bit high) but upon talking to the seller he will take a lot less (between $10K-$11K).  I really love the look of the Captiva Cuddy and this will be my first boat purchase.  Any recommendations or tips from current owners will be greatly appreciated.

Good stuff. Once you do get a boat, if you ever trailer to Norman, let me know.

(cut and pasted my post from your other thread)

I own the exact same boat! Ran it a ton this season mostly on Lake Erie, according to the speedo, it will run 45-50 mph, and it sips gas which is a good thing with the prices like they are!
It's a pretty basic, simple, straight forward boat, not a lot to go wrong on it. Also has plenty of storage space in the engine compartment which is a plus!

So far I love it, but I just wish I had a boat with a little more room. They wife and I spent several nights on it at Put In Bay this year, it's definatly Cuddy!
I have been thinking about trading it in for something a tad bit bigger. If I dont, no worries...I still like the boat really well!
Also, that price seems pretty high to me, heck...I'm hoping I can get about $8500 (wishful thinking??) trade in at one of the dealers in the Port Clinton Ohio area, and my boat is in very nice condition. Maybe you can beat him down on that price some more.

If there is anything else I can help with, just ask!

BTW...my boat doesn't have an hour meter either, must have been an option that year or something.
