I am going to purchase a High five prop.   Likely a 21 pitch.  But I can easily hit my rpm limit alarm now with my 3 blade alluminum 14.25  21P      So I was wondering if anyone has tried a 23 Pitch on a Rinker 192 V6 4.3 MPI?  My local dealer says "no way on the 23P"  but only stocks a 21 and I wonder if they are just trying to push me in stock on there prop.

Since I can not over rev the engine (electronically limited) I can not tell how much more power/RPM I have available.

That 23p is probably a bit high. It's both stainless, and has more blade surface area. Both typically pull the RPM DOWN at wide open throttle. I run a 19P stainless 3blade on my 3.0L. In looking for a High 5 earlier this year, I was looking real hard at the 19P version of that. I can see some of the newer FI 4.3's making enough power to turn the 23P. I would think that the dealership would have some experience with it. Have you asked if they have seen this exact scenario before? Do they have an example of another customers boat that didn't do well with the 23P 5blade? If not, are they just guessing?

Will the dealership let you try the 21p High 5 first? Perhaps commit to purchasing a prop, so long as it's the right one. Toss the 21p on there and see how it does, if it's not enough, have them swap it for the 23p. I'd certainly think they would let you try before you buy, so long as you commit to purchasing one of them.

Now I know we're comparing apples and oranges here vis a vis prop design but here are a few data points.....

4-blade cupped SS Turbo in a 22" yields 4450 rpm at WOT.
4-blade cupped SS Turbo in a 20" yields 4800 rpm at WOT.

This is on a 4.3L Volvo GL-D (carb) with a max rated WOT range of 4200-4600 rpm.

I use the 22" for cruising and the 20" for watersports.  I would venture a guess that the 21" will be perfect.

Thanks for the replies.

mvn...we should hook up some time in the summer.  We are located in London ON.   We boat mainly on Lake Huron and lake Erie but have been to the Bay of Quinte too.
