Just got the notification that the NY National Boat Show at Javits Center is happening earlier this year.  It will be from Dec 13 to the 21st.  Hopefully this will allow more vendors to come, as last year they were sharing space with a Fashion show.  While fun to see thumbsup, the fashion show really didn't contribute to the boating aspect much! naughty

I'll be going Sunday the 14th, though I've heard that Stone Harbor isn't making the trek up this year. Hope that's not the case, but we'll see -- maybe the boat show'll be covered by the Connecticut dealer.

So it's the second day of the NY boat show, and my friend and I get over there at around 10:30.  First bad sign, unlimited spaces to park. In NYC?  wow.  Go into the show and if there's 100 other visitors there it's alot.  Get the free program and notice Rinker isn't displaying.  Only one Carver, the Sojurner, on display with two Marquis.  Grady White was there, right at the entrance as usual.  Big Brunswick display (Sea Ray, Bayliner, Maxum, Meridian, Azimut). Formula was there. Four Winns had only one big boat. Cruisers looked like they only had their small boats as well. Didn't see Regal.  Only saw one tug company. Almost no sail.  Talked to a few vendors and they said that the first day's traffic was between 12 and 3, the rest of the time it was vendors selling to vendors.  Show was primarily wakeboarders and small bowriders / cuddy's

At least the electronics guys were back. But not too many people were giving away anything.  Worst was that it was all on one floor this year, and the main floor, where most of the boat displays ususally are, were taken up with tables to eat at.  Very empty.  Had one guy at the Meridian display telling me he sold 12 boats yesterday, I asked him if any of those boats were not of the toy variety... really gave me confidence that he'd give me a good deal... (not!)

Talon, I took a couple of pics, but truthfully, the show was so bad that the pics aren't worth posting.  You know it's a bad show when all you spent money on was a Sham Wow...

went on monday and it was dead . Every dealer i talked to was depressed. One even told me he was wasting is time this year "after i said i wasnt buying". When i asked one of the javis personal where rinker was he said "they didnt show up this year ,guess they didnt want to spend 100,000.00 for nothing - along with regal ." Ive been to the last 5 shows and this by far was the worst one.

That is depressing - I think the cost of exhibiting in NYC is a major deterrent.  $100K??? eek  The Annapolis show in October was jammed with people.  Some of the sales people I talked to thought it was much larger than in 2007.  Of course the nice weather helped. thumbsup

You guys need to come up to Toronto for the largest in North America that is indoors. You can definitely get your fix there.
Check it out  http://www.torontoboatshow.com/Default.aspx

I never miss it and it takes more than one day to get through it all.
Cheers,
Ron
