Thanks Talon for the help.

Here are a few pics from our fall trip.  The crew and staff of the Mark Twain sight seeing boat was a great help for local info., barge traffic for the locks and even topped off our coolers with ice.  Very nice people!!!

Looks awesome! Are there speed limits or no wake areas on the river? How long did it take you to travel the 100 miles?

Looks awesome! Are there speed limits or no wake areas on the river? How long did it take you to travel the 100 miles?

Only time we had to slow down was when locking through.  average speed was29-35mph so travel time was 3 hours.(plus locking through time) Locking through was a different story.  Heading up it took 7 hours with a stop for lunch and fuel top off.  Heading down river we made it to the last lock in just uner 4 hours, the captain of the Mark Twain sightseeing boat told me I might run into a barge before I get to the last lock.  We past the barge up about 10 miles from the lock and I did up my speed to 40mph to get a jump on the barge.  Made it to the lock and called the lockmaster and told me I had to wait for the barge I just passed lock through. huh  A half hour later the barge finally made it to the lock,  entered the lock, the computer that runs the gates had to get rebuted and another 45 minutes after the barge entered I got the go ahead to enter.  25 minutes later we locked out.  The other 2 locks we had no problem,  we caught one where a barge was heading up river while we were going down, just iddled right on in.

Hannibal is a great little river town with alot of history,  not knocking the small marina but after the flood they had no shore power.  Not a big deal with gen. and great weather.  But, the marina is about 50 yards from 3 yes 3 railroad tracks.  The tracks have 2 road crossings that end in the parkinglot of the marina and sightseeing boat.  The captain of the Mark Twain asked us how we slept... I said not very well, he started to laugh and said: "did the trains keep you up, up to 40 trains per day come through here"  I laughed and said they don't come through durring the day they come all night long.  The first thing you get a warning with the crossing bells and then here it comes several long VERY LOUD train horns at EACH crossing.  Other than that great ride, wonderful weather and oh yeah 10 year anniversary.
