Also, if you keep heading up river, you will run into the dresden lock. If you lock through there is a great place to anchor up for the night.

Lock through. After a few minutes of pulling out of the lock you will see the Kankakee River on your starboard side. Watch the buoys. You should enter this river right at the mouth of it. If you follow that river for approx. 5-15 minutes, depending on speed, there is a nice area to anchor up for the evening. It will be a decent size area behind the lily pads. You can enter at either end, but don't try to cut across it too soon on the west side of it(sandbar). Directly across from the lily pads is a sandbar that has a volleyball net at it, and across from that are the waterfront houses(all to the north of the lily pads). If you pass a humongous house on your starboard side and go under the bridge there, you have gone too far.
If you look at this map, the lock is at the top of the screen. Following what I said above. You can zoom in to see the waterfront homes, and across from that is the sandbar, and across from that is the lily pads, where you can anchor behind them.
