I goofed and didn't realize that Portside Marina on Kelleys Island took reservations.  We had planned on staying there for the weekend of Island fest with our kids.  Seaway Marina has mandatory raft up.  Has anybody done that when children are involved?  i.e earlier bed time than most of the crowd.

Yes, when we go to Kelley's we usually stay at Seaway for several reasons:
1.  They are more protected from the lake than Portside.  Only the very inside docks at Portside are protected and it can get real tight in there
2.  Seaway has a lot of grass and sidewalk areas where the kids can run and ride their bikes around.
3.  Unlike PIB, they only raft 2 deep and the crowds are a lot more civil.

The down side to Seaway is the distance you may have to walk to get to the shower house and to down town.

Thanks for the info.  Where are you slipped in Sandusky?  We are going to spend some time at Cedar point Marina as well.

Tennja,

We are docked at Venetian Marina, C-57, which is located about 1 from Cedar Point.  Let me know when you are around.

Thanks,

We spent the last two weekends on Kelley's Island.  We docked at Portside Marina two weekends ago.  We didn't have a reservation but called in on approach and they slipped us in due to a last minute cancellation.  We docked at A3 which is all the way on the inside.  Not too bad.

Last weekend we tried to get a reservation at Portside two days in advance but they were already booked solid.  Seaway Marina was recommended to us by a couple of people at our marina.  However, it was too far of a walk for us especially after a night of partying.  So we ended up docking at Unique Marker Yacht Club.  We had to raft up but only 2 deep.  It was a nice experience.  Great people and we were about 5 minutes away on foot from the action.

BTW - I want to thank the guy with the Rinker who helped us dock at Portside Marina two weekends ago.  I never got his name.  I am assuming he's a member of this forum.

Sea Rascal,

I was at Kelly's last weekend too and I saw your boat at Maker's Mark.  We stayed at Seaway and rented a cart for the night which makes it very easy to get around the island.  Was the guy that helped you in at Portside in a tan canvas 270?

Brant -

Feel free to stop by next time and have a cold one with us.  We plan on going to Kelley's again next weekend.

I did not see the Rinker of the guy who helped us.  It may have been an FV270.

Any of you all at Kelley's this past weekend?  I was there glancing around just wondering if I'd notice any names on the boats.  I did see two Rinker's rafted together next to the beach State Park area.  My sister-in-law has a second house there.  Definitely looks like a great boating area!

We were there last weekend but not this weekend.  The area that you are referring to, North Bay, is great spot to swim.  The water is pretty clear and the bottom is very sandy.  The only down side is that it is a state park so you are not allowed to drink alcohol on the beach.
