Hi everybody,

The 270 f.v which i have purchased a month ago is equipped with a kohler generator.

i have operated same successfully  and tried to operate the Air condition by pressing the relevant button on the control panel of it, but nothing happened. I have the same issue with the microwave and the refrigerator. Nothing is working with or with out having the generator on.

Any ideas how to operate these equipments?

The boat is 2002 model with a 350mag.

thank you all for any replies.

There is an on/off switch on the generator itself that sends power to the panel.  Even with the generator running, you must make sure the switch is set to on.   Look on the generator for the switch.

There is a double breaker switch that has to be switched over to the generator on position.  The opposit of shorepower position.  then the AC breaker must be on.  Make sure you have the seacock on and water is being discharged from the exhaust port of the generator.

Thanks for all your replies.

I have finally operated the gen set.It was a circuit button attached to the gen which should be set to ON position.

I have still some questions, which you may assist with:

1.How do i know that the gen is working properly. I did not see any indicators/gauges for that. Is there any alarms for, lets say overheating or oil pressure for example? The Generator is a Kohler 5 Kw

2.Is there any valves (sea cocks) that i should open or close in order to operate the Air Condition? If positive, any ideas where they are located in the 270f.v mod.2002?

3.what would be the indicative fuel consumption of this generator?(gas)

4.Is there a time limit for the generator to be continuously operated? can I have it working for, lets say, 6-7 hours?

Thank you all for your help.

Brgds

1. it's working properly if it is outputting water out the side, 110V is showing on the power panel, and you can also tell just by the sound.  If it is a constant humm, not cycling up and down.  If it is cycling you may need to add more load to it.

2. Yes, there is a sea cock for both the generator and air conditioner.  I'm not sure where they are for you, but there are plenty of 270 owners on here that should chime in.  If I were to guess, maybe under the aft cabin cushions there is an entry into the bilge area for the a/c one.   Genny one is probably within the ER relatively close to the unit.

3.  Fuel consumption depends on the load, but I would say around 1 gal/hr fully loaded.

4.  Yes, you can run it many hours.  I've seen them ran for entire weekends.  Just make sure to run it a few minutes without a load before shutting off, so it can cool down a bit when you are done.

Good luck and enjoy using the genny!  It sure makes boating on the hook very pleasant!
