This is not a new problem with our 212 but one that I would finally like to fix.  When cruising at planeing speed my wheel is 90 deg from being straight.   I just need to figure out how to remove the center cover on the wheel to get to the nut holding the wheel to the helm assembly.   Is this common on most boats?  Any comment on how to remove the center cover, does in snap on or held with screws?

I replaced the steering wheel on my last boat. Remove the center cap with a small screw driver to expose the nut. Remove the nut and adjust. Should be a quick and easy fix.

All you need to do is the following, i am assuming you have power steering, if so follow this:

Get the leg as close to straight as you can then shut off the engine.

With the engine off gently jerk the steering the direction closest to center.  That will slowely force the steering fluid back into the tank.  It may move the leg slightly so you may have to start the engine drive straight and redo the procedure.

I have doen this one mine several times as it gets out of alignment during trailering.  I got this info from a Rinker dealer.

Good Luck
