2007 246 BR questions
«

Good morning everyone,
I generally lurk here but have a few questions that I am hopeful someone can help answer.
I bought a new 246 BR last spring and the family has enjoyed boating. 2 issues have come up on our last outing and 1 has always been there.
1. speedometer quit working. not a huge issue but I would prefer it to work.
2. my fresh water is not pumping. the pump runs when I turn it on but the water does not pump. I had the boat winterized last fall. could this be an issue or could the pump or hose be clogged?
3. when pulling my young kids skiing/knee board at necessary slower speeds, the rope is in the water or prop wash/wake. I wish I went with the wake tower but is there a solution to raise where you hook the tow rope? I have seen other boats with a pole that does the trick but cannot envision how that would work with the 246 set up.
Thanks in advance for the help and for information learned by lurking in the past.

Todd, I can offer some advice on your first two issues:
1) On the speedometer, try checking the speed pickup pitot on the stern. It's mounted so that it will extend down below the bottom of the hull. Sometimes it will get bumped up to where it's roughly parallel to the hull bottom and not extending below. Simply pop it back into place by rotating it downward. If that's not the issue you've probably got a clogged line.
2) You've probably lost prime. When this happened to me on my 320, I simply let the pump run while underway with a full fresh water tank. It started pumping after a couple of minutes.
Sorry, can't offer any good input on the towing issue.

Thanks for the help, Dan. I certainly appreciate it.
btw, I'm from St Louis and occassionaly boat at Lake of the Ozarks. If I remember correctly from reading the forum, you used to boat there.
Thanks again for the advice.

Todd,
We boated on LOTO for 3 years. I used to think it was big & the water rough.
The Chesapeake is BIG, and can be REALLY rough, but it's boating heaven. I doubt I could see everything there if I boated every day for a year!
Good luck with your 246! I think it ought to be a great boat for LOTO except for the roughest of days.

Is it the little black circular thing?

No, typically it's a white plastic piece about 4-6" long with a small hole at the end. It will have a hose running out of it where it's attached to the stern.

When my 232 water system loses prime, I turn on the pump and run the transom shower BELOW the swimstep/platform and within seconds, it primes the system.

After I posted that I went and double checked, and it is definitely not the circular black disk thing on the bottom, as that is sealed to the boat. Funny thing is, I can't find a white plastic piece anywhere, and my 246 speedo sporadically works as well. It is pretty much stuck around the 50mph mark until I am running full throttle, and then it moves clockwise to the 10mph mark.
I'll put some pics up here shortly.

If your boat is running a bravo 3 drive the pick up for the spedo is in the lower skeg of the out drive.

I'm assuming it is the little hole a tad bigger than the end of a ballpoint pen.

From what I have read it is the little pin hole and it was clogged up. I cleared it out, but it still didn't do the trick.

To add to this I found something that might be helpful.
http://http://boards.trailerboats.com/cgi-bin/trailerboats/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=000695
Specifically this post in that thread. There is also a link in this post that you have to click when going to the link above. It is a diagram breaking down the certain part you are looking to pull out and clear/clean debris from.
Quote
Yes, you can pull it out w/o removing the drive. With the drive in the out/up position the Connector is in the center of drive about 8" above the pitot pickup point. In the locked position the connector has a " tab" that is parallel with the drive. Turn it 45 deg. to port and pull up and it should come out. You should be able to find it, just look for the black rubber hose in that area.
Diagram
Look at the link above, the fitting is #16
I did this and then ran a little water from the top of hole and it flowed freely out of the pin hole below. Hopefully that will solve the issue.

I added this in another thread, but figure it would be useful here as well.
My speedo problem had nothing to do with the lines, it was the Faria gauge itself. They have to pull it out and order a new one from the dealer. No timeframe as to when this will be done. My dealer is supposed to be contacting me about that.
Also, the Faria gauge has a lifetime warranty. From what I was told Faria wants back the original gauge, and they ship out a new one. It might not be in that order. So if I have this correct.....................they are pulling mine out, shipping it back, waiting for my dealer to receive the new one, ship that one to the shop the boat is at, put it in........and hopefully I am done. ?
