replacing cupholders with stainless

Has anyone replaced the plastic cupholders in their cruiser with stainless ones. I just bought 12 new ones for my 342. A friend of mine just replaced his and he said he would help, I was just looking for some tips from other do-it-yourselfers.

Check out iboats.com, in the store section under hardware, part #50091038. A friend of mine just put these in his 2005 342FV and they fit exactly. These are these exact same dimensions as the cupholders on the 342. They are a polished stainless with drain line connections and they look first class.

I just replaced all 4 of mine in my 270FV with Stainless ones purchased from eBay. They look awesome compared to the white plastic ones. I have to be honest, it isn't an easy job if you are as anal retentive as I am. When I pulled the plastic ones out, there was a heavy layer of a chaulk like material that looked gross. If I had just put the new cupholders in without removing it, it would have shown. I took the time to scrap it all off with a plastic scraper then used wax which helped desolved the remainder of the chaulk. The finished result was much better. I'll post a photo if I go out on the boat this weekend. Also, the cupholders I installed had this 2 sided tape on the lip to hold them down. I bought them from another company but this is exactly what they look like. You can see the 2 sided tape as well.

I got 12 from iBoats and it only took about an hour to replace all of them. The white plastic ones were siliconed in. I used a new Exacto blade and with the flat side down I had to cut the caulk off. I used a solvent then a gelcoat cleaner to get the rest off. The cup holders have 2-sided tape as previously mentioned so installation was a snap. The boat looks completely different now......well worth the work.
