If I remember correctly, another member of the board, Looperman, used the Rideau Canal as part of his "Great Loop" circumnavigation of the eastern half of the USA.

If you search the site you can find the link to his website that talks specifically about the trip and the Rideau portion of it.  To me it sounded like one of the best parts of the entire journey.

I did the trip years ago from Kingston to Ottawa on a houseboat we rented in Clayton, NY. It was a beautiful trip. Lovely scenary, nice people and the biggest mosquitos I've ever seen in my life. Deep Woods Off is the eau de cologne of the Rideau Canal!

All the best,

Nancy

We did not make the Rideau on the Great Loop trip but do plan to go there next summer. The reports I get from other "loopers" is it's really beautiful. As of now we plan to go right up the Hudson and through Lake Champlain and on into Canada. The Rideau trip will bring us to Kingston CA which is where we entered Canada on our loop trip. Time will determine where we go from that point. On over to Georgian Bay or Buffalo and back across the Erie to the east coast and back home.

Looperman
Make sure to let us know when you get up north on the Hudson... I'm on the Erie Canal/Mohawk River between Lock 7 and 8... Our club is a great spot to to overnight.... Great facilities... At least a couple dozen loopers stayed with us this summer... One stayed all summer... "MOTHERSHUCKER"
