One of the ony casualties of the trip up the Hudson this weekend was that a full "Bubba Keg Junior" of coffee was knocked onto the cockpit carpet.  Any suggestions on how best to clean it?  I had boat soap at the ready but that didn't quite cut it.

Thx!

We had the same time of problem - spilled coffee - on our second trip out on the boat.  I have a Bissell handheld rug cleaner that I load up with a mixture of Oxyclean and water.  Cleaned it right up in less than 5 minutes!

Well, I will say I usually use my pressure washer, yes, and it cleans my cockpit carpets right up.  Not sure though about that stain in particular.  You may just want to do an internet search for "carpet cleaning coffee stains".

Oxyclean and elbow grease took care of a coffee stain we had.

One comment on carpet cleaning.....once or twice a year I take mine to the local cleaner, who runs it all through an industrial size washing machine.  Comes out great.  Same guy that does my shirts!

Cool! Was actually thinking about taking them to a car wash, but I like your idea better, Greg!

And oxyclean (being in the laundry room "even as we speak") wil be the first attempt! Thanks!

If you've got access to a small rug cleaner you can save the elbow grease!  (gotta' save the elbow for the 12 ounce curls).

Good point!

Let's review:
 1. It does plug in.
 2. It does make a lot of noise.
 3. However, I'm not sure that it's dangerous to operate while under the influence - unless you drop it into the water!

What do you think?  :hmm:

Well, the logic is clear...

And no doubt I should save the elbow for the important work.

I'm thinking if I replace the brushes on the end with something really dangerous and stupid, I can injure myself without dropping it in the water!  That works! :D

I'd say if you don't have the rug cleaner, but have a pressure washer, put the oxy clean on, let it soak, then pressure wash.  BTW, you can rent good rug cleaners at grocery stores...then do the house while you're at it  .

Hmmm...wonder if the admiral would go for one of those 240 volt floor refinishers... I'm sure that'd finish the carpet like no one's business!

Seriously, guys, Oxyclean and the Bissel's it is! Thanks! :D

I take them home, lay them on the driveway, spray them down and put carwashing soap on them to clean them.  Same for my c-cover.   The Oxy stuff will do the trick too, I use that on other things

Speaking of carpets:

Need recommendations to the rubberized backing on the c-carpets.  Ours are disintegrating leaving black residue on the cockpit after I pull them up.

Is there a spray on rubbery stuff I can spray on?

Or, has anyone priced replacements for a 270?

Gracias!

Bob

Bob, I'm afraid once the rubber backing starts to go, it just keeps making a mess.  This happened on my 24'.  I took all of the rubber off after a while, cause I got tired of cleaning it every time I went to the boat.  I finally replaced it with a placed called snap in carpet http://www.snapincarpet.com/

Of course, 3 months later I ended up moving up to my current boat  .  I will say, they did very good work, for a reasonable price (reasonable for boat stuff anyhow).
