I am sure that after you took one look at the manual you said how am I every going to get through this! Yes you will find the videos of some help my suggestion is to watch the video a couple of times from start to finish, then go back and study the parts that you think you missed or you are unsure of!
Nothing can teach you better about radar than using your unit. Good weather radar usage is very important to learning how the unit works! It allows you to look at the screen and then look out the window to relate what it is telling you.
The one thing I can not stress enough is that the radar is a relational instrument. It is going to show you what is going on around your boat with the reference being your boat, in the center! There are many suttle things to learn about radar. One that I stess the most that they don't tell you in the video or book is about your safety zone. This is a physical limitation that every radar has.
This is the area around your boat when the radar will not show you a target. The easiest way to see this is to pick a bouy get a fix on it on the radar screen drive the boat towards it. Of course you want to be in the smallest range 0.125M. You will notice that the dot representing the bouy is large as it first comes on the radar screen and the dot gets smaller as you approach it. When you get so close to the actual bouy it will disappear on the screen and reappear as you pass it. The point that it disappeared is your safety zone any vessel or object within this distance will not appear on the radar and you must take that into account when using the radar in the fog or night.
If you have questions as to why we can go through that but first you must watch and understand the basics about your radar.
