I looked at the 270 and liked it but the 310/312 felt like twice the boat for the same price if you look around.  For how we use the boat, anchored up on the Bohemia or hanging at a restaurant, the bigger boat is just more comfortable.  The one big bonus is the genset and AC.

You will not go wrong with 280. Love the 8.1merc...Does everything you mention and more. When I go cruising with my buddys, one with a 342 and another with a 30 foot Fours Winns, I BLOW by them. As for comfort. like others have said, a wider beam is always better but there are costs in it also, so I had the same concerns. I stuck to a single but with guts. I just can't see that boat with a smaller engine though. pirate

Okay I will speak from a little experience.

We boat with a lot of freinds and none of us have the ame boats.

I am a new Rinker owner, Previously I had a 26' Proline cuddy I was the desiganated fishing boat:) but had a decent cuddy in it.  But now my another friend has a Formula center so he is the fishing guy and we moved to a crusier 28' Rinker and mostly becuase of it beam.

Now one freind has a regal, the beam is no where near the Rinker and I overall didnt like the boat
Simalar with tha Chapperal 28' that another frind owns.
Now my Rinker beats both of these boats IMPO
The only thing it doesnt beat and you where talking about sea ray is my Best friends Sea Ray Amber Jack.  His is 29' and is loaded and the layout is amazing, also the beam on the amberjack is 10'6"  Head room and Cabin room is laid out bueatifully.  The Amberjack though is a specfic boat made for crusing or fishing, several of the back chairs come out to leave an open rear if you wanted to use it a fishing boat vs a crusier.

But other than the Sea Ray Amber Jack I have seen a beam larger than Rinkers.

But the big situation is price, I personally would got toa 28-29 foot ans skip over a 26ft IMPO I have seen the Amberjacks 02-05 in good shape for 45-60K not sure what rmodels rinker made in the same year catogory. and the price the fetch.

Basically, I don't think I would trade boats unless I went with an Amber Jack from Sea Ray

I would love to go into the 32' range, however im trying to avoid the costs associated with twins. Im lucky enough to have 2 family members waterfront with docks, so the extra space to stay on the hook really isnt necessary to me. The 27-28' seem like a great compromise, large enough to entertain all day and still have a usable cabin all with a single screw.

Feel free to convince me otherwise!

The convincing will happen after about 2 months out on your 27/28'.  The amazing beam of a 31/32' is 11'4", which just makes the boat feel twice as big as a 27'.  I am not saying you won't be happy, I'm sure you will.  But, having the extra space, and especially the generator, makes you able to go anywhere, anytime, and just drop the hook and stay for as many days as you'd like with no worries.  No matter what you get, come to our Rinker Rendezvous that we usually have up your way at Still Pond.  Take a look at the past years under the chesapeake forum portion.

Good luck with whatever you choose, and hopefully you'll stay a part of this forum either way. There are some fantastic, honest people on here and I've been fortunate to meet quite a few of them over the years.

Good luck! thumbsup

The Sea Rays are nice but over priced.  If you want a more stable boat go with the wider beam.  We were looking at a Sea Ray and Rinker before we chose our Rinker.  I like a wide beam for stability.
