This mild winter so far has me thinking that boating is in the not too distant future.  I'm starting to make my to-do list which includes Buff Magic and Pro Polish the hull, pull the outdrives and change seals, etc., change oil and impeller in genset and then the usual paint the hull and drives.

I'm on the Upper Chesapeake and April can be a real hit or miss month.  Sometimes it's spring like with lots of sun but chilly and other times is is dreary, cold and lots of rain.  I used to put the boat back in the water in late March or very early April but this year I night hold off until at least mid to late April to make sure the weather is nice.

When are you guys planning on putting the boat back in the water??

The more I think about it good friday seems like a good date, not too early and won't miss any good weekends.  Hope the weather cooperates in late March and early April so I can compound, wax and paint.

Running mine down the first weekend in April.  I'll spend a few weeks getting her ready as she's been laid for for the last 2 seasons.

Our official season starts May 1st ... i'll be in by May 15th ... thinking Lake Erie should be warm early this year since it still has not froze over.  thumbsup

Middle of winter here in Utah.  Most of the lower lakes thaw Aprilish and the main boating lakes late April early May but the water is swim-able until June.

I am aiming for May 1st.  Last season, the daily rains held off getting most of the boats cleaned up and prepped until June.  Of course, I am working May 2nd to the 8th, but it will be great if I can get her in on the 1st, check her over, get her charging the batteries and start some ventilation going.  We will start moving back in on the 9th, weather permitting.

Oh man, today is beautiful!!!!  Yesterday was nice too.  I am so ready, but February has got to have a punch!  I keep looking at that 10-day forecast that stays above freezing!

I usually go at it the first or second weekend in March.  Problem is, the boat is all nice and waxxed and ready to go in.  Then, I uncover and it rains and rains....and by April, when it's nice to use it, I need to clean it again.  bang head

I have a few things I need to do this year, so I am going to try (if I can just hold out) to do those few things first before removing the cover.  I need to take off an exhaust elbow and manifold on each engine to see how they look.  I did it two years ago and things looked really good.  So, depending, I may need to change them out (It has been ten years, so I don't want to push it).  I need to do the impeller thing as well.  I also had a little issue at end of year with the belt on one engine, so I need to look further into it.

Is this what the fuss over global warming is?  All I know is I'm saving my heating costs and I hope to get in the water earlier but I don't know if its a bad thing as they keep saying.

The Groundhog says more winter though!

I don't want to jinx anything, but if we're as lucky with the spring as we were last year, I'll be aiming to have her in the water for April 28th.
