Do you have a quiet flush or manual? Or vacuflush? Sometimes, especially if the head is a manual. I upgrade to an electric flush, Johnson version. The Johnson brand is slightly more expensive, but in our area, more dependable and more options. Al

What was the joker valve doing to your toilet?

It's a black rubber flange looking piece goes where the hose goes through the wall looks like a thermostat housing it keeps waste from coming back into the bowl the rubber gets lazy and you have to change it out about a 8 dollar fix and 10 minutes time. It works like if you have a mouth full of water it stays in but when you open your mouth it lets the water seep out. look at the blowup at Jabsco

The Y look at the bottom opens when you flush the closes it self to stop backup

I replaced the by pump with an electric and love it mostly. Here is a video of our Jabsco 29200-0120 electric conversion Jabsco 29200-0120 http://www.youtube.com/v/A1tKWsnyB9g&rel=0. The install took about 10 minutes but I did have to run wires to the head with took an additional 30 minutes. The reason I said love it mostly is that it is noisy. Other than that it works great and am very glad to have done it. NO clogs and I have not had to replace the joker valve early. I think that since it macerates the waste it does not make the valve stretch out very much. Oh one major rule, only body waste and marine toilet paper goes into the toilet all other personal hygiene items naughty go into the garbage.

If you have waste coming back in the bowl yes if it's not flushing properly no the weighted gasket may be the problem. like I said above get the new pump arm and your good to go a bebuild kit cost as much as the new pump and believe me they aren't fun to rebuild and they don't work all that well after you rebuild them I guess you get wear on that Plastic.

No waste coming back in the bowl. Sometimes the pump is hard to push down(Like an air lock). Mostly, it's the bloody noise it makes, like someone gargling scope in the morning. In my aera, a brand new toilet is 149 tax in. It's a pump mind you, but I don't mind, neither does the admiral. I guess that if I was going to spend the money, I want to do it wisely.

Sounds like an airlock to me.

The gurgling sounds like air bubbles finally pushing back up the bowl to get gravity draining to work.

I have no idea how this could happen.

I wouldn't change the bowl unless it was cracked there are no moving parts there. I don't know about a 280 but on a 270 the bowl was thru bolted to remove it you have to cut an access hole in the ledge in front of the toilet to get to the bolt heads there was a thread on this a couple years ago. If you're lucky maybe the nitwit that designed the 270 head was fired. Can't you order from Amazon.com in Canada?

I am with babyboomer, no need to change our the bowl unless it is cracked and leaking. You may have a small air leak on one of the tubes that attach to pump. I would just buy a complete replacement pump either manual or electric. They will come with all the connection parts and tubes. I would also replace your joker valve since you would have it apart anyways.

Have you tried to re-prime the pump?
