Hi Everyone
I am from Ontario and I
Just closed on a new 2012 4.3L 196 BR
I was wondering if anyone out there has a Rinker under 21ft. and what are your experiences
It seems a lot of posts here are for the larger boats so I'd love to speak with boat owner of smaller Rinkers
I'm excited but nervous since I was also considering a Sea Ray and their sales rep was saying the Rinkers don't hold their value in Canada and are not well made
I seriously hope I didn't make a mistake
I would really like to hear from you
Best

No boats hold their value very well in today's economic climate, but at least you didn't spend more than you should have on an overpriced Sea Ray.  Any Rinker I even seen holds up as well as any Sea Ray and you don't have to spend more than you should because of the name on the side.  Good luck and welcome to the RBO.   clapping thumbsup

Good luck on your new boat!!!! Being nervous is normal, all part of the experience!!!!! Also, Any real salesman would never slam another company who he is up against, but, show you why his is superior to the others( which I am sure he did not)! They are all good, I find, different in small ways and features, You will enjoy your boat and maybe we will see each other on the water!!! pirate

I just bought a Rinker EC at the Toronto boat show.

Same comments were made about Rinker depreciation. So i actually studied this. My choice was between a Four Winns and the Rinker. Well, I found these boats basically depreciate the same, with no more than a $1000 difference (sometimes Rinker listed for more).

Also researched the number of boats listed for sale per year. Also was the same within two or three boats.

So basically this is a non-issue.

Now Sea Ray does have a good name in the industry and will probably fetch a slightly better resale but you need to consider two things. 1) How much was the original price and how much did you actually lose? 2) the difference in resale prices will not be astronomical and more like within a couple of thousand so it is no a lot in the grand scheme of things.

So, in short, enjoy the boat and don't worry about these little things dealers try and over rate to land a deal.

Hey welcome.   Our first rinker was a brand new 2009 rinker 192 purchased from Baymarine.  Kept it for 5 weeks and but 15 hrs on her untill we traded it in on a slightly used 2008 260 EC from Maplecity marine with 30 hrs, that we have enjoyed for 3 seasons.

Hi Mark
Thanks for your reply and encouragement...yes the waiting is tough
how are you enjoying your new Rinker
It seems that you have a four blade prop which I was told should only be used with dual prop boats
It is the recommended prop for your boat/...I was wondering if it would improve the performance of the 196 or is this boat too small?

Alan,

"It seems that you have a four blade prop which I was told should only be used with dual prop boats"

Hmmm...never heard that one before dont know dont know

In your spare time, you can do some reading on this site and lots of others regarding props!!  In any event, 4-blade props (and 5-blade) are typically used in towing applications like watersports where holeshot is important.  3-blade props are typically used when your application tends to be cruising.  Now, these are not carved-in-stone rules, just guidelines when getting the "perfect tune" for your application.

Since our boats have been primarily used for watersports, I opted for 4-blade props for several reasons.  I am contemplating on getting a 3-blade stainless for the 226 when we will be doing more cruising this coming summer (better fuel economy).

Any size boat will benefit from a better performing prop.  In order to make the best recommendation, we would need things like anticipated usage (application), engine WOT RPM, stern-drive gear ratio, engine & sterndrive make, model, etc.

Oh, and welcome to the site.  Lots of great people here willing to share very valuable information!!

Mark

PS.  Where in Ontario are you located?

Hi Mark
Wow thanks for the very detailed information and for the welcome...I'm enjoying it! Nice to have contact with fellow "Rinkers"
I will read up on props as well
You seem to be very knowledgeable regarding technical areas like gear ratio etc....all of which I know "nadda"
However, my use this summer will mostly be cruising with the occasional skier
So it looks like 3 blade is best
Does the term "holeshot" refer to the time to plane at WOT?
Oh yes, we live in Toronto and will be up in the Huntsville area, based in Peninsula Lake this summer
Regards

Alan,

You'll learn quick enough!  Don't be afraid to ask any questions .....a pretty respectable bunch here!!

Yes, holeshot refers to the acceleration rate from idle.

Spent last summer enjoying the Huntsville area....lots of places to cruise.  Wanted to go to Mary Lake through the lock but ran out of time.  Maybe this summer.
