Hey maybe someone knows the answer to this goofy question. On my 320 the dinnette froor is carpet. I have really nice runner carpet over that. Looks nice and warms up the cabin. Though as we walk on it, it slowly works its way back to the steps and bunches up. I'd like to drill two holes in the floor just below the forward bunk so I can tap in two male snaps to hold the carpet in place. (tried velco and it won't hold).
How close is the floor to the hull. I don't want to sink my boat... To the right of the air vent and below the forward part of the sink the floor angles up, like the shape of the hull.
Do you think a 1/4-1/2 inch drill hole in this location is OK?

I would believe, don't quote me. but..The logic would be 1/2 inch. I would put glue on the screw also to help it not work it's way loose.

My thought is this, the hull goes into a "V" and the cabin floor is flat. So there has to be some space there. My guess is a small snap screw would not hurt anything........

Hi Lg, i have a 2005 320 that came from the factory with the snap in fabric floor mat. I have not removed the screw caps but they look alot like what would be used on the canvas top so i am thinking they probably screw in at least 1/2-3/4 of an inch, hope this helps, Pedro

Do not install any snaps or drill any holes in a the angled part of the hull, ie floor which angles up. This area i the hull bottom. Rather install the snaps in the floor, which is horizontal. This area will suffice for the carpet runner. I have seen several boat owners inadvertanly drill a hole in the bottom and now have a leak. Continually moldy carpet. Good luck Al

Thank you everyone for your insight. Yeah the angle area is what made me think twice. General logic i guess. I think to be on the safe side I will tap the snaps on to the vertical wall just above the floor and use short straps with the snaps to the carpet. If that doesn't work then the factory carpet will at least cover the tapped holes.
Perdomerk, if you get a chance and don't mind, can you post pictures of the location of your snaps.
Thanks,
LG

I had this problem with a big rug at home on a thick carpet and it has driven us mad. I found a magic underlay called FOXI. It is brilliant and stops the rug moving and bunching up which it did all the time.
I have the same problem in the boat so I am going to get this stuff for our runner on the cabin carpet and hope it works as well. Seems preferable to drilling holes!
Not sure if it's available Stateside as it is a French product but from my experience it may be worth hunting it down!

I saw something like Maverick is describing at Bed Bath and Beyond this weekend.
It was being marketed for keeping rugs from slipping on wooden floors. I am sure it would work on the boat too. And no need to drill.

Thanks for the idea's guys. I tried something like what you are discribing and it did not hold as the boat carpet is so flat it just slides vs sticking like it advertises.
