Im looking at a 2000 fv with a 5.0 in it.  Im just not sure if thats enough power.  Im not looking for a lot of speed but would like to plain out with a few people on board.  So i was hopeing someone that has owned or knows about them can give me a little more info.

Back in 2000 I had a 230 Maxum.  5.0 three blade.  Changed the blade to 4 and added trim tabs and had all the power I needed.  Lost 5 mph on the top end though.

If the boat you are looking at has a Bravo 3 or Duo prop then you'll be good.

Test drive it with some of your buddies loaded in the boat.  Then you will really know.

A few years back, I had a 2000 242FV with a 5.7 EFI in it.  It ran very well, but I new a lot of guys that had the same boat with 5.0s and heard no complaints.  I think an important factor is the drive.  I had the Bravo III (dual prop) and had a better hole shot than the 5.0s with single props, but that only limits you when pulling a skier or carrying a bunch of folks on board.  If the one you are looking at has the dual props, I wouldn't have the slightest bit of concern.  I don't think there is more than a couple MPH between the two as far as top end goes.

It has the alpha 1 drive not the duo prop.  I had thought about takeing a couple people with me but it is 5 hours away so i wanted to know what im getting into before i make the drive.

4 or more people you'll have to send a couple to the cabin to get on plane then they can set where they want trim tabs will correct the weight

You need to check if it is the 260hp mpi or the 220hp, both were offered around this time. We have a 250 Fiesta vee with the 260hp with Alpha one. I re-propped with a stainless prop and slightly different pitch no problems getting  on the plane with 4 up and someone tubing!

You just need to be careful with the rest of your load no more than 1/2 full tanks and use the trim tabs. If I have 6 on board then I need to send a couple into the cabin to get on the plane but then she flys!

You may find it under powered depending on the prop.  Test drive it and see what you think with 4 adults in it.  Pay attention to how much fuel, water and waste are in the tanks.  I love our 350 mag with B3.  You may want to look for that combo instead.  The 242 is a great little cruiser!

Well sounds like $15,000 is to much to spend on something I most probably wont be happy with.   I really like the boat if it just had the power to push itself around a little better. 
I really appreciated all the information it has helped a lot. 
Just curious what a guess on the cost would be to put a 5.7 with bravo 3 in one would cost?  Im sure its not worth the money but i kind of wondered if anyone new.

Not worth the money 5.7 300 HP or a big block love my 7.4 but thats just my opinion you would have to go to a 270 for a 7.4
