at the start of last season I failed to test my trim tabs and found one to not be working.  By the end of the season it appears the other has stopped also.  What are the basic diagnostic steps and typical issues.  Should I assume electrical connection gone bad or do the actuators themselves commonly fail.  My boat is a 2002 342.

I had the same thing happen on my 2003 342.  One of the trim tabs quit working and the issue was the actuator (I believe).  The marina replaced the part and fixed the issue.  Hope it's an easy fix for yours.

My bet it's the trim actuators.  The part number is more than likely in your info bag that came with the boat.  The general price for the actuator is around $200 clams.

Do you store your boat on the hard?  If so, a good freeze can pop the seal.  Otherwise, the seal just got old.

My starboard trim tab has quit working too, but since I only use the port trim tab this will have to wait until the boat's out of the water in the Spring. Or maybe I'll just spend the $200 on a case of rum  pirate

Best thing to do would be to check the Lenco website as a start. Lenco folks are also pretty helpful with answering questions, providing basic troubleshooting, etc. My guess is that your brain box is dead. I had one go bad on my 03 270 - easy to replace.
Good luck!
