Hello atug

I think everything is fine aboard your boat.  The reverse polarity lights only come on if there is a wiring mixup in the shore cord or shore supply circuits.

I have a green light on our boat that indicates correct polarity.  I always look for the green when connecting to shore power.  I have seen the red light only once when there was an incorrectly wired shore power plug.

You should be good to go running the generator while underway.

If you are going to use the engine alternator as an AC source you need to get one hell of an inverter to do it. You are going to need a minimum of 30 amps to power the panel. It would be better just to run your generator.
