BigSioux,

I don't see a problem running full throttle on a 232 with the bimini top up.  The bimini support arms (frame) are relatively low and close together on that boat. I don't see any problem handling that type of stress.

I have not had a problem doing it on any of my boats, although on my second boat (a center console), the bimini would bounce around a bit due to the long length of the support poles.

On the other hand, I have never owned a boat that I ran faster than 35 mph.  If you boat over 50+ and there are strong winds, then you might want to take her down.

Hope that helps,

Phil

Sorry about that, just realized I stated "full throttle", instead of "cruising speed".

I don't think anyone cruises at full throttle, do they?

my cruise speed is full throttle after I get out of the basin...that's usually about 50mph.  I notice that the bow lifts a little more than usual with the bimini open, and slows me down about 2,3 mph when in a head wind..I prefer to close it when "cruising" then open it when anchoring awhile.  It's an easy enough thing to do..

On my 212, I have the one that also has the straps, front and back. That really helps.  I can run full out with it up, no problem....the front straps sometimes get into a vibrating funk and make quite a racket, but otherwise, does not seem to have much effect.  It might kill a MPH or two on the top end, but not much more than that.

Sometimes a twist in the strap stops the vibration

I'll have to give that a try.   Thanks for the good idea.
