HI:
new member!
i have a 02 270 fv and wanted to share and get info on a couple of things:
1. i am planning to install plasteak on swim platform and also the bow area of the boat, including, the anchor compartment cover.  does anyone know if the platform of an 02 and 03 are the same?  i'm pretty excited about doing this as i think it will look terrific!
2. just my 2 cents but i only use mobil 1 15w 50 synthetic and i think its the best oil, period!
3. i've had some water seepage on my portside above galley porthole and i was wondering if any one has had same experience.
4. i have the 5.7 mag mpi and at around 3550 rpm; 20.6 knts;  i've gotten 2.11 mpg, what do others get?

thanks in advance!

Welcome to the site , I live in southern Ontario , have a 03 fv 270 , same motor , drive  as you ,  use Lucas 15 - 40 syn , works great for me , have 22p prop , - 3500 rpm runs 25 mph on the gps . likes to cruise around 4000 rpm. You leak could be the ss safety rail , put some 3M  4200 sealer around the screws and flange , I did ,  worked for me , or could be your port window ?? Where do you dock , region  makes a different on oil grade to use , hope this helps .

thanks everyone!
i'm pretty excited about installing the plasdeck in the spring, just put a deposit down.  i'm putting on the entire bow and swim platform.
i read some posts and recaulked the radar arch where it meets the body, i dont know the results yet, if that doesn't work, i will try the bow rail screws next!
i also finally installed the camco hot water bypass kit and that was a mess!  hopefully, after i install some home depot additional plumbing parts, and cut some length out of the existing tubing, it will work as designed, without leaks that is!
i plan to keep the boat awhile longer so doing what i can, but except for the lousy docking handling or complete lack thereof, i really like this boat's combination of size, performance and manageable economics of maintenance.
thanks again,
david

BTW does anyone know which is the house battery vs. the start battery, i have to replace the house, but i don't know which one it is of the two!  thanks!

It all depends on how they are hooked up I use #1 as my start and #2 as my house usually the house battery is a deep cycle I also went to a series 29 for my house battery

thanks, i'll figure it out, just being lazy...i was hoping it was a standard thing.
i can't wait for the spring already, oh well, i have plenty of winter projects.
sorry, i keep coming up with questions, but...has anyone noticed any difference between using a sierra oil filter, a mercruiser filter and a mercruiser filter that appears to be alot bigger.  i bought a bunch of sierra filters, and haven't used any yet, keep thinking may be they aren't as good...
thanks.

I read some where that the more holes in the top of the filter the better lets more oil circulate keep asking questions that's what we're all about and that's how we learn. Here's a link on oil filters not marine but it list a lot of brands

thats a great link, thanks!
i will still stick with mobil 1 15w 50 though, although amsoil might be a good alternative, especially since they have 20w 50 weight.
anyway, just my 2cents but i dont think any of these oil manufacturers produce a marine only oil, and i can't fathom that any so called marine oil company, has behind it all of the technology and r&d behind these synthetic oils, with all of the racing testing that goes on behind them.  thats why i stick with car oils and dont accept that so called marine oils are better, and never mind that they claim they have "marine stabilizers" that make them more suitable and costs alot more (not sure if they cost more than auto synthetics as they aren't cheap either).  if u read a prior motorboating article where the owner has a 66 427 marinized motor that has 2700 hrs. and still runs perfectly, he only uses mobil 1 15w 50.
thanks.
