here's a new one... storing boat outside so i bought a winter cover, all's fine. before i covered it i changed the fuel filter yesterday. put cover on and started to adjust it but i smelled gas.... i knew i spilled some from the fuel filter but that should be gone by now. checking it outand found the stern cover was wet with fuel, opened the motor hatch no fuel smell here, found wet fuel on the bumper trim that's on the boat and it has some drops. dont know after some head scratching i opened the fuel cap and burp! here's more gas bubbling out, i guess i overfilled the tank when i topped it off and to make matters worse i raised the bow 6" higher than level and after i gave it a tad over level no more gas burping, which i found lives to hang out and drip off the trim anywhere it likes just to make you angry. bang head wow! that's about it....

This is prime example of why you do not fill the gas completely full before storage.  Sorry you had to learn the hard way.  I always tell my customers to fill only 3/4 full for storage.
You must have filled the tank on a cool day, thus the fuel is also cool and more dense.  As the days warm up, the fuel in your boat also warms and expands.  The fuel will expand right out the vent, which on most boats are built directly into the fuel fill.
